Phantom Island [Indie Exclusive w/Live Photo Print] (LP)
King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard
Amoeba Review
Phantom Island is the vibrant, joyous new album from the mighty King Gizzard & The Wizard Lizard. Recorded at the same time as last year's Flight b741, the band was inspired to get orchestral on their new tracks after meeting the LA Philharmonic during a Hollywood Bowl performance. The title track opens with a jazzy, evocative melody, gradually morphing into an easy-going soft rock song, with romantic strings and punchy horns, before evolving into a proggy, propulsive epic. "Deadstick" continues the deep dive into '70s rock, with Stones-esque swagger, falsetto funk vocals, and grand finale-style horns. Phantom Island is a thrilling listen. You never know where the band is gonna take you, but one thing's for certain...it's gonna sound and feel damn good.
